The city is situated on the N14 road between
Johannesburg (523 km away and 7-hour drive) and
Upington (264 km away and 3-hour drive) northeast of the province, in the district of John Taolo Gaetsewe.
The main language spoken in Kuruman is the Afrikaans (80.7%), followed by the Tswana and English.
The city is best known for his Eye " Eye of Kuruman ", ground water source providing water to the surface in the Kalahari Desert, the largest of the southern hemisphere.

The roads are passing through Kuruman:
- The N14 between Upington and Johannesburg kuruman
- The R31 Danielskuil and linking it to the border post of Botswana and Namibia.
- The R372 linking to Mokgareng.
To our knowledge there is no possibility to rent a car in Kuruman, the nearest town to rent a car is 240km south to
Kimberley.
By Plane :
Kuruman has an airfield with landing strip, the Johan Pienaar, but there are no regular flights.
For your domestic flights, you must take your
ticket to Kimberley .

Kuruman does not own railway station.

Moffat Mission Station : The Moffat Church was completed in 1838, is now a museum and opened to visitors.
Bird Sanctuary : Located northwest of Kuruman, this natural reserve of 2000 hectares of wetland with lots of grasses, reeds and trees.
Approximately 115 bird species are represented. But also Giraffe, Jackal, Caracal, Impala, Wildebeest ...
and many other Animals .
Kuruman Hiking Trail : 11km Walk (5h) to discover the beautiful area of Kuruman, there is no permit requirement.

Witsand Nature Reserve
Located about two hundred kilometers east of Upington, the Witsand Nature Reserve teems with birds of all kinds as the Pygmy Falcon, the smallest bird of prey in Africa.
This reserve is home to 3300 hectares, an amazing curiositée, dunes measuring 20 to 60 meters high.
Hiking, 4x4, bike, picnic and accommodations are offered.

The Tswalu Kalahari Reserve is proximitée the town of Kuruman.
Tswalu covers 100,000 hectares, and is the largest private hunting reserve in South Africa.
The reserve is home to over 230 bird species and 70 mammal species.

Not too far from Kuruman, lies the cave Wonderwerk.
