This village called the "ghost town" is a highly regulated access: the barbed wire line the road to the enclave in the territory authorized diamond.
Kolmanskop mine operated from 1908 to 1938.
The old houses of the first diamond operators from Germany remained hanging on the dunes, which slowly ensevelisent.
In the village center, the remains recovered were transformed into a museum.
Yellowed photographs cover the walls of historic scene, reflecting the early work of extraction.
The dark furniture and costumes of the early explorers of this Eldorado of the early century decorate the rooms.
We visit the same hospital that holds the surgical instruments of the time.
Some more recent photos let imagine the treasure still hidden under the sand today. But no diamond is exposed.
The tea room housed in the former dining room can enjoy a coffee and some delicious German pastry traditional, perfectly suited to the occasion.
The restaurant is open every day except Sunday.
