I. Things to visit and see in the region of Grootfontein
The HOBA meteorite
Located 24 km west of Grootfontein is the Hoba meteorite.
It was discovered in 1920 but rested for 30 000-80 000 years.
This mass of almost 60 tons, is the largest meteorite known on Earth.
It is also the largest known mass of iron naturally, it is up to 82%.
To get there, take the track in 2860 about ten kilometers, the meteorite HOBA is indicated.
Das Alte Fort Museum
The museum is located atop a hill in Grootfontein.
The "Old Fort" was originally a fortress built in 1896 Schutztruppe.
With its panoramic view over the surrounding countryside, this tower was used for the army.
The Fort, housing the museum was declared a national monument in 1975.
Baobab Tree
The Baobab is situated on the Farm Keibeb at about 60 km north of Grootfontein on the track in 2848.
With a circumference of 18.5 meters and a branch at 12 meters, Baobab is masterful.
Gaub Cave
Gaub Cave located on Farm Ghaub.
